Types of DNS records for Office 365
An SPF Record SPF (Sender Policy Framework) record is a type of Domain Name Service (DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are permitted to send an email on behalf of your domain.
The usage of the SPF record is to prevent spammers from sending messages with forged email addresses to your domain. Receivers can check the SPF record to determine whether a message representing to be from your domain or comes from an authorized mail server.
A TXT Record is a type of DNS record that includes a few text information to sources outside your domain. The information can be either human-or machine-readable and can be used for email verification purposes. When using Cloud services, you can add TXT records to your domain’s DNS settings to verify domain ownership and to implement several email security measures
An SRV Record is a Domain Name System (DNS) resource record that is used to identify computers that host specific services. SRV records can locate domain controllers for Active Directory which are set up in the system.
A CNAME Record stands for Canonical Name. CNAME records are used in the form of alias names from one to another. For example, let’s suppose you have a server where you have all of your documents stored online, and is accessed through rec.example.com. You may also want to access it through records.example.com. A way to make this possible is to add a CNAME record that points records.example.com to rec.example.com. When a user would visit records.example.com they will see the same content as rec.example.com.
An MX Record is a mail exchanger record (MX record) is a type of resource record in the Domain Name System that specifies a mail server responsible for accepting emails on behalf of a recipient’s domain and a preferred value is used to prioritize mail delivery system if multiple mail servers are set up for a single domain.
